2011 Audi A8 sedan all-wheel-drive overlay style, fabulous interiors and high-tech features that can easily be used if you spend some time studying them.
This is the fourth generation A8 - Audi's flagship car - has a revised user interface, but it looks basically the same. He continues to have the automaker's almost an aluminum body / chassis structure, few Americans ever understood or fully appreciated. He does this four-door is very stiff and lighter than most competitors.
A8 is still a big guy, about 4,400 pounds, partly due to its all-wheel-drive hardware, and has a longer wheelbase and overall length. It is also wider.
The new A8 4.2 comes in Standard ($ 78 050) or extended-wheelbase ($ 84,000) forms, and is powered by a sophisticated 372-horsepower V-8 is enhanced with a new system of direct fuel injection, which helps to increase power to 372 with 350 rating 2010 model. Both versions have the comfort, convenience and safety features expected in a luxury sedan.
Optional safety features adaptive cruise control to prevent rear-end collisions and enhance night vision.
There are many tempting - and often costly - the comfort and convenience options. They include the $ 6300 Bang & Olufsen advanced sound system and $ 2,300 convenience package with such items as power trunk lid and rear view camera.
Silky smooth V-8 also has more torque and works with the new responsive eight-speed automatic transmission, which helps to enable an estimated fuel economy at 27 miles per gallon on the highway - perfect for this type of car - and a respectable 17 miles per gallon in the city.
Automatic can be shifted manually. But with all the data transfer rate, the majority who want to pass on their own soon wonder why they bother.
One of the few shortcomings of the car is a shift selector lever that is not moving forward and backward through tabs like a regular selector and can make it easy to select the wrong gear if the driver is not paying attention.
The car does 0-60 miles / h in about 5 seconds left in just a normal drive, and feels as though it would be more comfortable cruising the European non-highway speed limit of 100 miles / hr, than messing around on freeways or highways U.S. 65 -75 miles / h. This is usually a sign of excellent. Maximum speed is electronically limited to 155 miles / hr
Advanced adaptive air suspension provides a smooth ride and flat cornering, and a well-weighted steering straight, with good road feel. A8 is managed as a less nimble car. Large 19-inch wheels are standard, but 20-inch available for $ 1,200. Brakes powerful.
Model with 12-cylinder engine generating 500 horsepower and is likely to cost more than $ 100,000, is said to be, but enough is not it? A8 is designed mainly for older, sophisticated buyers premium sedan, but not for fast drivers. Even the seats are formed more to give long-distance comfort than the added support for the winding of the turns. Seats can be be ordered with the message, heating and ventilation features.
I tested the $ 78,050 regular-wheelbase A8, which left me wondering why anyone would want an extended wheelbase version, if they do not expect NFL players to throw the football in the back seat.
Nevertheless, a large as it is, regular-wheelbase A8 rear seat has a rigid area of the center, which only allows comfortable seating for two. Best folding armrest seat of a large center. Individual rear seats are options.
Revised, quiet interior is wider, bright and airy. The huge steering wheel can be easily gripped and lighting devices can be quickly read. Engine start / stop button and high-tech features include a navigation system with touch panel. To enter a destination or a phone number, just draw the letters or numbers on the control panel with a finger.
My test car had the power to open and closed trunk of a feature that is useful, but the big chest was wide, but rather high opening.
Audi is more than a name for himself here, where he had long lagged behind Mercedes and BMW in terms of status. However, Audi continues to come up with a wide range of new and improved attractive models such as the A8, which attract more and more Americans to its stores.

Initial versions of combustion is 4.2 liters of fuel stratified Injection (FSI) petrol and turbo-charged direct injection (TDI) diesel V8, with 273 kW (371 hp, 366 hp) and 258 kW (351 hp. with., 346 hp), respectively. The 3.0-liter V6 TDI with 184 kW or (250 PS, 247 hp) or 150 kW (204 hp, 201 hp) will be available later. 6.3-liter W12 engine will be added in 2010. Most of the engines will be mated to a new 8-speed ZF 8HP automatic transmission.
D4 iteration of Audi A8 4.2 FSI Quattro can do 0-to-60 miles / h sprint in 5.1 seconds, which is faster than previous generations D3 platform Audi S8 5,2 FSI Quattro.
D4 A8 has all the light-emitting diode (LED) headlamps, the expansion of Multi Media Interface with touch screen, and an additional 1400-watt Bang & Olufsen Sound System.
2011 Audi A8 was launched in the U.S. with a series of ads known as "Good Night" (a tribute to classic children's stories) and "Release Hounds" (with Kenny G), both ad criticizes Mercedes-Benz S-Class (white 2010 S550 4MATIC) and the old luxury. "Liberation Hounds" aired during the Super Bowl XLV.
Reception for the 2011 Audi A8 has been positive for its fuel efficiency, lightweight, handling and acceleration.

Audi A8
The Audi A8 is a luxury car and the successor of the Audi V8. Much of its technology components will also use the VW Phaeton.
Audi's way into the upper class began in 1979 with the Audi 200 (type 43), based on the Audi 100 C2. 1983 as a luxury version of the new Audi 100 C3 followed, the Audi 200 of the 44th type Came in 1988 with the Audi's first stand-alone V8 luxury model on the market. But this was - despite technically independent new construction - an offshoot of the Audi 100 Design features that position, among other things, the spaciousness and comfort, yet could not measure with those of competitors in the luxury class. It was these models, especially through the quattro but could gain a wide acceptance as a competitive offer for Mercedes-Benz or BMW products, learned these first three models but not yet.
It was not until mid-1994 with the A8, Audi presented a completely separate upper-class model. To compete in this segment, alongside the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series can alternatively he was equipped with some technical features which are not offered the competition.
This included the all-wheel drive "Quattro" and the world's first aluminum body in a production vehicle in the luxury class. Criticism of the car had to have always fallen in the comfort chapter - a tribute to the more athletic overall design.
As a base engine, a 2.8 liter gasoline engine with six cylinders were used. The other end of the W12 engine line-marked cylinders. The majority of the buyers ordered the 8-cylinder with 4.2 liters of displacement, from which even the unashamedly sporting offshoot is "S8". The first diesel-powered A8 (2.5 TDI) was found with his performance of 110 kW (150 hp) as underpowered and was replaced by model year 2000 by a version with 132 kW (180 hp). That same year saw the launch of the first eight-cylinder diesel (TDI) as an initial trend for the large volume still continuing boom in diesel engines in the luxury class.
After eight years of construction, the internal D2-called Ur-A8 was launched in November 2002 (model 2003) detached from the D3. The aim of the new development was to reduce the perceived strengths while maintaining good comfort weakness of the A8. A litter is the new A8, despite air suspension will not, the buyers seemed not to disturb, however: in 2008 occupied the A8 in the luxury segment, with 4446 vehicles registered number 2 of the German registration statistics, behind the Mercedes S-Class (8077 units) and in front of the BMW 7 Series with 4226 vehicles.
The engine program has been revised, see also the engines of type D3. As a new base engine in the 2.8-liter six-cylinder was used with 154 kW (210 hp), while the power was increased on the 4.2-liter eight-cylinder engine to 257 kW (350 hp). The 6.0-liter W12-cylinder remained in the program it came up with a V10 with 331 kW (450 hp), which remains subject to the S8. Most A8 buyers opt for a diesel, however: 2006 was introduced with the 4.2 TDI 240 kW (326 hp) than it was then the world's strongest diesel engine in a production sedan.
Audi showed the new-generation luxury sedan only at the Geneva Motor Show 2010. Overall, the A8 grew by ten centimeters to 5.15 meters. Formally, the Audi A8 remains almost unchanged, only the distinct lateral line is new Tornado. the basic version of the Audi A8 with the 2.8-liter FSI six-cylinder engine came in 2010 with front wheel drive and a CVT (Multitronic) allowed the longitudinal matrix in a space-saving design -. the front axle of the Audi is a 15 centimeters stored further forward. This results in an improved weight distribution also.
Construction period (model years):

1999 to 2001: Audi A8 Facelift D2/4D type 1 (modified front, aluminum trims, front / rear, right side mirror of equal size, modified center console, modified door handles, white side indicators)
2001 to 2002: Audi A8 Facelift D2/4D type 2 (slightly revised fog lamps, aluminum strip on the ashtray and a small compartment in the center console, automatic transmission with step "S" instead of 2/3/4)
2002 to 2005: Audi A8 Type D3/4E
2005 to 2007: Audi A8 Facelift D3/4E type 1 (externally to identify the single-frame grille)
2007 to 2010: Audi A8 Facelift D3/4E type 2 (slightly modified radiator grille, side turn signals in mirror housings, revised taillights)
Since 2010: Audi A8 Type D4/4H
